Marine Teens program at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles (2024)

Key Art/ Illustration/ Website/ Social Media/ Sweatshirt

Each year, the Marine Teen Science Internship Program at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles recruits a cohort of ten teens from the Boyle Heights neighborhood in East Los Angeles. Starting in the spring, these teens work as paid Museum employees over the summer, focusing on marine science projects. I create the key art for this program, which is used on social media, websites, sweatshirts, and other platforms. The program offers enriching field trips to locations such as the LA Zoo, Whale Warehouse, and the Getty Museum. Its goal is to provide students with limited access to scientific internships. For many participants, this is their first hands-on experience in science. Interns not only gain valuable knowledge but also become Museum employees and ambassadors of the Marine Teen Program. They are encouraged to take an active role in the program, which helps them build a lasting connection with the Museum. With 40 alumni returning regularly, maintaining engagement is crucial to ensuring that graduates continue to feel connected to both the Museum and the program.
